The roof of our own factory. The same roof was covered in two batches, and the 2025 aerial photos still show the boundary between the old and new panels.

Technical highlights

  • One roof, two generations of panels — In the top-down aerial view, the lower right corner is one solid block of blue polycrystalline panels and the rest are all black monocrystalline panels, with a very straight dividing line. Our own records show two dates, January 2017 and November 2022, and the two kinds of panels correspond to these two batches.
  • Fixed to the existing roof, with no new foundations — The mounting is fixed directly to the corrugated roof sheets of the existing factory. The difficulty with this method is not the load but sealing the fixings. Every fixing point is a place where the roof is drilled through, they number in the thousands, and right under the roof is a working factory.
  • Our own roof, our own maintenance — The November 2025 photos show two employees rinsing and scrubbing the panels on the roof. A job you finish and walk away from shows nothing of what comes after; your own roof does. Several years on, this mounting is still in normal use and being maintained.

Project notes

On this one, the client is us.

The roof of TEI-JEN-GANG Plant 1 is covered with solar panels, and we made the mounting and fixed it on ourselves. It went up in two batches: our records show two dates, January 2017 and November 2022, and the 2025 aerial photos happen to capture the traces of both. The blue polycrystalline panels in the lower right corner are the early ones; the black monocrystalline panels covering the rest were added later, and the dividing line is obvious at a glance in the photos.

What really makes rooftop mounting troublesome is not weight but waterproofing. To fix the mounting, you have to drill holes in the existing corrugated roof sheets, and across a whole roof that adds up to over a thousand fixing points. Every hole has to be sealed, and under each one is a factory that is still running. Miss one, and the drips land on our own machines.

So this roof is also a long-term checklist: it has been up for several years, and the maintenance and cleaning are done by our own people (the two photos from November 2025 show exactly that).
